Update and Referrals

Just a week later and everything has been sorted out with the two new orphanages that IAN has partnered with. GREAT news that all of the paperwork has been filed with Ethiopia and our agency has started making referrals (I assume from the new orphanages). Today they posted 7 new referrals were accepted! Four 3 year old boys, one 3 year old girl, and twin 2 year old girls. Great news for 6 happy families and 7 little precious children.

After the news that the orphanages are finalized I emailed my coordinator and asked her if they had any additional information on the new orphanages, and she said that they are called Yeengida and Selam, and they were both started around October/November 2009 and are both located in Addis Ababa. They work in the Harari region of Ethiopia. (This is different from another region that IAN was(is?) receiving children from - called Sidamo.) You can see from the map to the left that the Harari region is near the eastern border of Ethiopia - near the border with Somalia.

So it is a great relief that the paperwork is finalized- and at least this week, there has been a lot of referrals made. Here's hoping this keeps up, and here's hoping for some baby and toddler girls!

We moved up on the baby girl list today to #20.

  1. Woohoo for list movement! I think our referral today (the twin girls) was not from one of the new orphanages (but I should get confirmation tomorrow). Congrats on moving up a spot...hopefully there is a lot more of that and soon!
