For all you waiting families out there

For all you waiting families out there (including those waiting to get on the waiting list!) - Mike and I will be hosting a family picnic at our house in Broomfield, CO on Saturday June 19th.

Mike and I have had such a great time getting to know other families in the area that are adopting through IAN during our 4 months of adoptive parenting classes, that we decided to try to organize additional get-togethers so that we can all hang out with other people who understand:
  1. A passionate call to adopt
  2. A love for Ethiopian children
  3. The questions, concerns, worries and celebrations surrounding adoption
  4. The ridiculous nature of being way too invested in the question "Where are you on the list?"
  5. A desire to form friendships with other families who will also someday have a multi-cultural family through adoption
This first get together will be at our home but we will try to plan to hold the meetings in various geographic locations so that you "southerners" won't always have to make the drive!

If you are interested in joining us email me and I can send you additional information!

  1. That sounds awesome!! Thanks! We'll be out of town that day, but would love to stay in the loop (and even host) in the future!

  2. Kelly- Shane and I would love to come (though there's a chance we'll be in Ethiopia at the time:)). Do we count even though we're not actually waiting? I guess we're waiting to bring them home. I can't email you because my computer always tries to use outlook and I don't have that set-up for my email. My email address is hornshoe4@yahoo.com.

  3. Bummer, we'll be camping that weekend. We live in Highlands Ranch and would love to get together with everyone the next time! I think we met at training last week? If so, you should have my info...if not let me know!

  4. Kelly!

We will definitely be there…I just need to check my younger one’s baseball schedule, but we will work around it. Sounds like a great time.

I loved what you said at class last week and wanted to add that I also think it will be great for our bio kids to have other similar kids to bond with over being a sibling to a different race adopted child. I’m sure they’ll have needs and issues too.

Thanks for taking the initiative and I’ll look forward to hearing more!

PS I got all excited again over today’s referral but it only helped those under #15!! I’m thinking maybe someone stepped up for the two that were on the waiting child list.
